"Held Together" is a contemporary figurative painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot, part of her ongoing and deeply personal series dedicated to women, their inner strength, and the invisible bonds that unite them.
The composition presents two faceless female figures standing close to one another, their bodies subtly leaning inward, visually held together by shared space, color, and presence. By removing facial features, Natalya shifts the focus away from individual identity toward universal emotion, allowing the figures to embody all women and all human relationships rooted in trust, solidarity, and mutual support.
Bold, expressive colors define Natalya's distinctive artistic language. Saturated blues and vibrant pinks interact with warm ochres, creating a sense of balance between tenderness and strength. The vertical lines rising above the figures suggest continuity, resilience, and an enduring connection that extends beyond the visible. As Natalya explains, “What truly connects us is often invisible. I paint what cannot be spoken—presence, support, and emotional closeness."
At the heart of this work lies Natalya's belief in authenticity—on canvas and in human relationships. “Authenticity is essential to me," she says. “In art, as in life, real connection begins when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and honest." Her brushstrokes remain intentionally raw and sincere, reflecting her conviction that emotional truth matters more than perfection.

Natalya is a contemporary  french artist living in Lyon. Â
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes. Â
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, Â which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult. Â
As an artist and as a woman  she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion,  is the pillar for the inner adult. Â
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works  rapidly  and is constantly sensitive  to the details. Â
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
