Description
"Three Voices" is a contemporary portrait of three women by French artist Natalya Mougenot, painted with acrylic paints and acrylic pens on heavyweight professional acid-free paper.
Measuring 70 x 100 cm (27.6 x 39.4 inches), the work explores feminine unity, shared strength, and emotional connection through bold color and expressive line.
As part of Natalya Mougenot's ongoing series dedicated to women, Three Voices reflects a long-term artistic exploration of womanhood, identity, and inner strength.
As a woman and a woman artist, she has lived through different transformations herself over the past five years, and this evolving experience deeply informs her work. Rather than presenting women as fixed or idealized images, she paints them as living, changing presences — because she is interested in truth, not perfection.
Authenticity is central to this painting. Natalya does not aim to create realistic portraits in the traditional sense; instead, she works with emotional honesty and intuition. She wants to feel free when she paints, and to depict her subjects as she feels them rather than as a camera would see them.
This approach gives her portraits a directness that feels personal and human. In that sense, her work belongs to a metamodern sensibility: sincere, self-aware, vulnerable, and unafraid to embrace emotion without irony.
Bright color is one of her main languages. The vivid blue, pink, green, yellow, and red tones in Three Voices are not decorative alone — they carry energy, presence, and emotion.
Natalya uses color to express vitality, strength, and inner movement, creating a visual language that feels immediate and alive. The result is a portrait that is less about physical likeness than about spirit, relationship, and emotional truth.
The three women form a strong but tender unity. Each figure remains distinct, yet together they create one powerful whole — a symbol of solidarity, trust, and mutual support.
The painting suggests that even when life is different for each woman, they can rely on each other and stand together. It is a celebration of feminine connection, individuality, and collective strength.
This painting will resonate with art lovers drawn to emotionally honest contemporary portraiture, expressive figurative art, and work with a strong human presence.
It is especially suited to interiors that value color, character, and a vibrant contemporary statement — whether a living room, studio, gallery wall, or collector's space.
Although it is a large-scale work on paper, its 70 x 100 cm format is a standard size, so it can be framed easily without the need for a special framing atelier.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
