Biography
Shelby is a British artist born in Gibraltar in 1987. He discovered the world of sculpture at a very early age in his father's marble sculptor's studio. At seventeen, this space became a veritable experimental ground for him: he explored materials and volumes through marble, wood, and plaster.
A few years later, he moved to Chelsea, an iconic London creative district. It was there that he discovered street art and pop art , two movements that would have a lasting influence on his world. Yet, it is the relief that remains at the heart of his approach—this search for a third dimension where matter seems to come to life.
To perfect his approach, Shelby enrolled at the prestigious New York Academy of Art, where he completed a two-year training program. This time spent in the United States reinforced his vocation and broadened his perspective on the international art scene.
A traveling artist, Shelby draws his inspiration from popular culture, cinema icons, superheroes and the great figures of the 1960s . His work revisits these mythical references with a resolutely contemporary, vibrant and colorful aesthetic.
His works, created primarily on metal or plexiglass, play on reflections, depth, and light. They are now exhibited in several galleries and major hotels throughout Europe and the United States, testifying to the growing recognition of an artist who brings together pop art, street art, and relief with audacity and modernity.
