Biography

Born in 1969, Jean-Christophe Martinez is a self-taught French artist.

Informed by two major artistic movements of the 20th century, Pop Art and Figuration narrative (narrative figuration), his practice encompasses colorful works, heavily influenced by cinema.

Jean-Christophe Martinez developed a very personal creative process, in which he uses fragments of images he collects or photographs he finds in his travels. He employs symbols and icons of today's society that put his work into context and allow the viewers to identify with his subjects. The influence of street art is also present in his paintings, through the use of tags and graffiti.
