Biography

For over 20 years, Bruno Guiard has been sculpting in wood and stone, two materials that he has been combining in his sculptures for some years now. His main subject is the human being. In the expression of his sculptures, there are many questions.

His figures are humble and fragile.

They wonder, worry, protect themselves, wonder, observe each other and take refuge in their inner world. Bruno Guiard's aim is for his sculptures to provoke emotion, to reflect on who we are, on man's place on Earth, his condition and his relationships with others. With their mischievous smiles, full of astonishment, Bruno Guiard's sculptures take a disturbing look at us.

At once soothing and disturbing, they judge us rather than the other way round.

The artist works gently with a soft stone: tuffeau (a stone from the banks of the Loire), sensitively revealing the fragility, suffering and humility of our world. Her particularly expressive faces give way to strange dreams that we wish we could share. So we keep quiet, trying to hear their murmurings and guess what they're trying to tell us with their eyes: 'What are you doing here?
