Cédrick Vannier

Cédrick Vannier was born in 1974 in Orléans, France, where he lives and works today. After his studies at the
Institut d’Arts Visuels in Orléans and the Bourges Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art, his works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. In 2010, Cédrick Vannier was awarded the Claire Combes prize by the Fondation Taylor and his work entered the Fondation Collas in 2013.

The first important thing about Cédrick Vannier's work is the desire he has of taking over themes of classical painting like portrait, landscape, genre scenes or still-life... He is very influenced by photography and daily life is his main source of inspiration.

The spectator is lead to a simple imagery, to an ordinary landscape which doesn't claim the narration it assumes. Cédrick Vannier's goal is completly different. What the artist wants to say is that painting is an act, a fact, where figuration blends with the reality of the material and the pictorial gesture.
