Carotte

France • 1980

‘Monsieur Carotte’, the enigmatic urban artist, has been bringing a touch of whimsy and mystery to the streets of Lyon for over a decade.

Biography

Monsieur Carotte embodies the essence of street art in the City of Lights. His prolific style is rooted in the city's artistic history. His choice to remain discreet on social media adds a mysterious dimension to his persona.

The originality of choosing a carrot as a mascot raises intriguing questions. Why this particular vegetable? What is the story behind this unusual choice? According to legend, after getting caught, he was angry about having to change his name and drew an angry carrot.

Monsieur Carotte does not sign his works and even signs his certificates of authenticity with a carrot, letting his mascot be his distinctive mark.

Some are hidden behind signs, others on top of buildings, metal shutters, or motorway verges. Some are giant, and all are playful and quirky.

In a constant quest for creativity, La Carotte also successfully experiments with canvas and innovative sculptures.
