Bengt Lindström – 100 Years, 1925–2008. We celebrate the centenary of Bengt Lindström — a towering figure in Swedish art, known for his explosive colors, mythic energy and primal force.
Our journey with Bengt Lindström began in 1976, when we published the book Bengt Lindström (as a graphic artist). Over the decades, many studio visits in Paris followed, and we had the privilege of exhibiting his powerful, unmistakable work time and again.
Born in Storsjö Kapell and shaped by the raw, untamed nature of Norrland, Bengt carried that spirit into every canvas. After studying in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Chicago, and Paris, he developed a style entirely his own — vivid, physical and infused with a primitive energy that seems to leap from the very surface of the painting. His work, often populated by howling, laughing, or growling human and animal figures, draws inspiration from Nordic mythology, the Viking Age, and folk art, as well as the experimental energy of the COBRA movement.
Over his long and illustrious career, Bengt became one of Sweden’s most internationally recognized painters. His large, colorful, and expressive works have been exhibited in major galleries and museums around the world. Yet to us, Bengt was more than a global art figure — he was part of our story, a constant presence and inspiration over decades of collaboration.
You will always remain Le Grand Viking du Nord.
