With *The First Spectator*, Thierry Valletoux invites us into the heart of filmmaking. As a set photographer, he occupies a unique position: a discreet yet privileged witness, he is often the first outsider to observe scenes in the making.
Through this exhibition, the gallery highlights a selection of photographs captured on film sets, where directors, actors, and technicians mingle. These images are archives of contemporary cinema, vibrant and imbued with a touch of mischief.
For over thirty years, Thierry Valletoux has been a fixture in the world of cinema.
After a first decade marked by his work as a journalist and photographer for Studio Magazine (1994–2004), he continues to maintain a faithful presence on film sets, collaborating with numerous contemporary filmmakers.
His perspective has been shaped by encounters and situations: suspended moments between takes, an actor's concentration, a director's precise gestures, the collective energy of a crew. Each photograph captures a particular tension, that of reality transforming into fiction.
