Liz Gartz’s Silencios (2018), presented at the Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey, marks a shift in the artist’s practice toward a more figurative and introspective visual language. Comprising a series of oil paintings, the exhibition explores themes of interiority, identity, and emotional states through the recurring presence of the female figure. Gartz employs symbolic elements—such as masks and subtle literary references—to evoke processes of concealment, transformation, and self-reflection. The notion of “silence” operates not as absence of sound, but as a space of latent meaning, where unspoken thoughts and psychological tensions emerge. Through ambiguous, contemplative imagery, the works invite viewers to engage with the complexity of inner experience beyond verbal articulation.
