McClane
France • 2013
Presentation
McClane is an artist duo based in Rennes, made up of Julia Crinon and Hugo Marchal. They started working together at the beginning of 2013, motivated by their common influences and their practice of drawing. Screen printing and self-publishing have been a way to gain autonomy, spread their work and evolve in alternative scenes imbued with a strong ethic. Today, if self-publishing and screen printing remain central to their work, they are open to other practices (installations, murals, photography…) and all of them overlap and meet continuously.
Their themes of reflection revolve around the place of politics in daily life, questioning the way in which systems of domination weigh on the sensitive individual and his environment. Combining the radicalism of black and white and figuration, symbolic images are composed, allowing different levels of reading and always leaving room for a possible narration.
