I no longer use LEGO for play, but to create meaning and connection. The QR code allows me to multiply its reach.
Biography
Contemporary visual artist qargo uses only LEGO bricks to create works inspired by iconic figures, objects, and symbols of pop culture. Iconic portraits, cultural artifacts, collective references: each creation is based on immediately recognizable forms, capable of activating a shared memory and personal emotion.
His work goes beyond what is visible. The QR code, integrated into the heart of his pieces, allows us to go beyond the physical object. With a simple gesture, he unlocks access to inspiring stories, unique journeys, and the human values embodied by the characters or objects depicted. This bridge between the tangible and the digital creates a direct link, accessible to all, regardless of generation or culture.
This approach has developed over time, nurtured by friendship and regular exchanges with Masahiro Hara, inventor of the QR code, whose career has profoundly influenced qargo's artistic vision. Their relationship has reinforced a fundamental conviction: a work can be both simple in form and profound in what it conveys.
Rooted in pixel and video game culture, influenced by Japanese culture and icons that transcend generations, qargo's work is accessible, demanding, and profoundly human. Each creation offers a dual perspective: that of the object itself, and that extended by the story it tells.
