Bronze Sculpture for Sale
Philippe Ramette, born in 1961 in Auxerre, is a contemporary French visual artist who lives and works in Paris. At the intersection of sculpture, photography, drawing, and performance, he has been developing a singular body of work since the late 1980s based on experimentation, shifting the gaze, and questioning our perception of reality. Recognized for his staged photographs in which he appears himself in physically impossible situations, the artist builds a universe where the absurd, poetry, and philosophical reflection question the limits between the imaginary and reality.
Initially trained in painting at the École des Beaux-Arts inMâcon, Philippe Ramette later continued his artistic journey at the Villa Arson in Nice, where he studied from 1987 to 1989. He gradually abandoned painting to dedicate himself to the practice of sculptor and plastic artist, developing hybrid objects and devices designed as extensions of the body and thought. These "objects for reflection," according to his own approach, allow for the physical experimentation of processes usually linked to the mind, contemplation, or perception.
Philippe Ramette's approach is based on the creation of imaginary functional sculptures, prosthetics, and experimental objects that modify the relationship between the human body and its environment. These devices then become the instruments for his photographs, created without digital manipulation, in which the artist adopts improbable postures defying the laws of gravity. Dressed in his traditional suit and tie, he stages himself in landscapes or architectures familiar, transformed by an unexpected viewpoint, creating a dialogue between contemporary surrealism, conceptual humor, and metaphysical questioning.
Philippe Ramette's works explore the notions of perception, reality, time, gravity, and the relationship to the world. His photographs, such as those from series dedicated to "irrational explorations" or inverted architectures, propose situations where the impossible becomes credible. The artist does not only seek to produce a spectacular image: he invites the viewer to question their certainties and to consider other ways of inhabiting space and understanding their environment.
His work has been exhibited in numerous international solo and group exhibitions. Among the individual exhibitions are notably presentations at the MAMCO Geneva in 2008, at the Regional Center for Contemporary Art of Sète in 2011, at the Domaine départemental de Chamarande in 2007, as well as at the Galerie Xippas in Paris and Geneva. He also participates in major institutional projects such as Paris-Delhi-Bombay at the Centre Pompidou in 2011 and various international events dedicated to contemporary creation.
Through a work mixing conceptual art, contemporary photography, contemporary sculpture, and installation, Philippe Ramette occupies an important place in the current French art scene. His work, both humorous, poetic, and philosophical, transforms physical constraints into mental experiences and offers an original reflection on the way human beings perceive and construct the world around them.
