Presentation

Philippe Hillenweck was born in 1975 in Alsace and began his artistic career at the beginning of 2000. A self-taught artist, but his work is very influenced by De Staël, Poliakoff and Rothko.

Material is his main focus, this is the reason why he prefers to use a painting knife rather than a brush: "Knife for a painting is like a slide for a guitar".

Before anything else, Philippe Hillenweck is a reference of Sundgau in abstract art. Though, his works aren't pure abstract, devoid of reality whatsoever, as the artist's main inspiration is nature and the environment enveloping him.
The artist shows us joyful and timeless work, leaning on a subtle balance between the subject, harmony of colors and the material.

The artist likes to explore new horizons, even though he's close to his roots. Always on the look out for new experiments, Philippe Hillenweck constantly studies new colors and ways of using them.
