Biography

Robin Obitz is a French contemporary artist born in 1989 in Paris. He lives and works today in Marseille, a city whose light, landscapes, and architecture deeply nourish his pictorial universe. His work is at the frontier of contemporary figuration and abstraction, developing a painting where modernist architecture, mental landscapes, geometric forms, deconstructed perspective, and saturated color meet. Through silent and carefully constructed compositions, Robin Obitz explores the tensions between construction, memory, intuition, and the perception of space.

Inspired by architectural drawing, his plastic language is based on a succession of plans, intertwining lines, and forms that invite the gaze to penetrate imaginary spaces. The artist seeks to go beyond the faithful representation of reality in order to lead the viewer into a fantasized universe, where spatial references are deliberately distorted. This search gives birth to a painting often described as Cubist lyricism, in which the rigor of the composition dialogues with an expressive use of color pushed to saturation.

Over the years, his practice has evolved towards a more spontaneous approach to gesture and composition, while maintaining a strong demand for construction. The empty spaces, white or colored, occupy an essential place in his recent works, creating visual breaths that discreetly structure the image. Nourished by recomposed memories, fragments of modernist interiors, and collected images, his paintings gradually bring back the human figure in stylized and archetypal forms, dialoguing with abstract or symbolic landscapes. His compositions thus become places of contemplation where narrative, architecture, and emotion meet.

Robin Obitz works mainly with oil painting, acrylic, charcoal, and pastel on canvas. This combination of techniques allows him to create surfaces rich in contrasts, where the precision of the line confronts the freedom of the gesture and the vibration of the pictorial material.

His work is presented by several French galleries, including H.D Galerie, Bronner Gallery, and Théo Landel, and has been shown in several group exhibitions, including Marseille–Paris at H.D Galerie (Paris, from June 13 to July 31, 2025) and Figures Libres at H.D Galerie (Paris, from June 12 to July 31, 2026). Through these presentations, Robin Obitz affirms a singular approach that renews contemporary painting, by proposing sensitive spaces where architecture, abstraction, figuration, memory, perspective, color, and imagination dialogue.
