A self-taught artist, it has been twenty years since Val gave up painting, her first love, to devote herself to sculpture. And since then...
Born in Gabon, Val followed the Cours Roederer while working in a Parisian gallery in the 11th arrondissement. After living abroad for about ten years, she returned to France and started sculpting.
Learning over time, she presented her first works in 2005 in Orléans and has been travelling since then. In 2013, she obtains the second special mention of the jury at the 11th International Biennial of Sculpture in Rambouillet and in 2016, the second prize of sculpture and the Univers des Arts prize at the International Academy of Arts held at the Nesle Gallery in Paris. In 2017, she won the artists' prize and the public's prize at the Carrara Trophy held at the National Stud Farm in Saint-Lô.
Val is a precise style in constant evolution, which gives birth to fantastic animals of paper and chicken wire, which gives life to the material and puts to rest all preconceived ideas about art and what it should be.
These are the last remaining works by Val Carr-Ortolan.
