Jean-Luc Sert

After a career as a teacher, a period during which I took pleasure, among other things, in experimenting with my students with different approaches to the visual arts, I have devoted myself to painting for a dozen years.

4. I have always practiced drawing as a privileged moment transcending the notion of space/time. 5. Passionate about art history, I draw valuable information from it that guides my progress and encourages me to continue in moments of doubt.

6. My influences are multiple, but we can currently note a preference for “colorist" painters, painters who “paint the paint".

7. Working in oil pushes me to paint earth, blood and water...

8. I feel an urgency to paint, while savoring to the last drop of pleasure/tear experienced in working on each of my paintings.

9. Living in Haute-Savoie for forty years, I immerse myself in its colors and its vibrations.

10. I claim my space of freedom in the face of social facts, even if part of my work questions the relationship of man to nature and the world around him.

11. Finally, I try to become one with the pictorial material, the act of painting being for me inseparable from an approach to martial arts (external then internal) that I have been practicing for many years.

12. Be that as it may, my painting, where we find visual aporias, wants to be heuristic and reversible.
