Biography
Kwesi Botchway was born in Accra, Ghana in 1994, where he continues to be based. His hometown inspires the portraits he creates, which he sees as a way to respond to the predominance of anti-Blackness both in Africa and its diasporas.
Challenging conventional narratives, Botchway highlights Black joy and beauty through his emphatic portraits.
His work, a unique medley of French impressionism and African realism, has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Accra, and Brussels. In 2011 Botchway founded WorldFaze Art Studio in Accra which seeks to promote arts education for children in the community.
