Biography

Born in 1986, Emmanuel Taku is a Ghanaian artist specializing in acrylic portraits, which have a particular focus on the Black indigenous experience. Dressed in traditional African clothing, the subjects of his portraits are often positioned expressively and playfully, against a rather plain background which brings our gaze to the detailed patterns of their clothes.

Taku's work has featured in exhibitions globally, most notably in the Maruani Mercier Gallery in Antwerp and the LGDR Gallery in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Paris.
