Itamar Yehiel creates sculptural embroideries that transform thread into organic forms exploring fragility, illusion, repair, and the dialogue between tradition and contemporary experience.

Biography

Itamar Yehiel (born in 1984 in Jerusalem, Israel) is a contemporary sculptor-embroiderer based in Berlin, Germany.

Known for his original three-dimensional embroidered sculptures, Yehiel uses thread as his primary medium to explore philosophical and emotional interpretations of organic forms. His works combine silk, cotton, nylon, polyester, and gold in highly complex sculptural compositions that challenge conventional perceptions of textile practice.

Her artistic approach explores the tensions between realism and illusion, permanence and transience, tradition and contemporaneity, as well as crisis and hope. Through these contrasts, Yehiel invites the viewer to reflect on the fragility and resilience inherent in the human experience.

One of his most remarkable works is inspired by the olive branch, a universal symbol of peace, as well as the Japanese philosophy of "remembrance," which considers repair and transformation as essential stages in the life of an object.

Yehiel's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout Germany, including a solo exhibition at Art Karlsruhe and group exhibitions at Museum Villa Rot and the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin. Internationally, his sculptures have been exhibited in New York, Miami, New Orleans, Stockholm, Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Hong Kong, Vienna, Ukraine, and Slovenia, and he has participated in major textile biennials and institutional exhibitions dedicated to contemporary textile art.

Today, Yehiel's practice contributes to the renewed visibility of textile sculpture in contemporary art, making embroidery a powerful medium for spatial and conceptual exploration.
