Ahlam Lemseffer

Ahlam Lemseffer is one of the most influential visual artists of her generation. His work revolves around mediums such as painting, sculpture and installation. His research explores shapes, spaces and colors and thus questions the interdependence that exists between flatness and spatiality.

After studying visual arts at the Decorative Arts in Paris as well as at the ESAG Penninghen. From the 1980s, Ahlam's work found visibility and recognition on the national and international artistic scene. Member of the honorary committee at the Société des Arts Francophones.

His work is shown among others at the VERA Museum (St Germain en Laye) in 1993, Palais d'IENA (Paris) in 1994, "Hoover Public Friends Gallery" (Birmingham Alabama) in 1999, Memphis USA in 1999, Galerie CDG ( Rabat) in 2002, Chicago–Casablanca Sister Cities (Chicago) in 2006, Galerie Bab El Rouah (Rabat) in 2007, during the inaugural exhibition of the Mohamed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Rabat) in 2014 and at Cairo Bank Gallery (Amman) in 2015.

The artist also participated in the fourth International Biennial of Islamic Art (Iran) in 2002, the Cairo Biennial in 2007, the XXIV Biennial of Alexandria in 2008, the Biennial of Sculptures and Installations (Graz) in 2013 and at the International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Tunis in 2014; Mohammed VI Museum Rabat.

She holds a large number of distinctions, including the prestigious decoration of the French Academy of Sciences and Letters.

In 2012, Ahlam Lemseffer founded the MAC in Briech-Assilah. Today, an essential cultural structure in the middle of Moroccan contemporary art.

His works appear in several major private and public collections, in Morocco and abroad.
