Ekene Stanley Emecheta

Biography

Born in 1994, Ekene Stanley Emecheta is a self-taught Nigerian artist. He lives and works in London and Nigeria and had the experience of teaching art in China for 5 months. Ekene's works are mostly figurative, rendered in oil and acrylic on canvas. His recent work focuses more on human energy, personality and identity. Painting white on the bodies of his characters giving it a moving appearance, he excludes the materiality of skin color in his paintings.

His Solo Show “Truthful Waters" held at Breeder in Athens in Summer 2021 was reviewed by Frieze Magazine. His works are in the collections of the X Museum in Beijing, the Xiao Museum in Rizhao, China, the Akzo Nobel Foundation in the Netherlands, the Comma Foundation in Belgium and the Up Next Art Museum in Puerto Rico.

Ekene's works have been seen at major art fairs such as: Art BaselBasel, Frieze London, The Armory Show, Frieze LA, FIAC and Félix Art fair.
