Presentation

Igor Mitoraj, sculptor of Polish origin (1944-2014), shared his life between Paris and Pietrasanta, in Italy, at the end of the 1960s. His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions (France, Spain, Germany, Italy, United States…). In 1981, he produced his first monumental sculpture Grand Toscano today in La Défense. Since 1995, his monumental sculpture Thshuki-No-Ikari, purchased by the British Museum, has been displayed in front of the colonnade of the famous Museum. In Paris - La Défense, since 1997 we can admire the monumental Tindaro head in front of the KPMG tower, and since 2000, we can admire three new sculptures Ikaria (Tour Adria), Ikaro (Tour Ernst & Young) and Centurion (Tour Fiat). Since June 2004, stands on the Place Saint Eloi in Angers, in front of the new Museum of Fine Arts, Per Adriano, bronze sculpture, acquired by the city. Claudio Malberti in Igor Mitoraj, Milan, 1986, speaks to us in these terms of the work of Igor Mitoraj: “His sculpture focuses attention exclusively on the human figure. No other interest, no further digression. No concession to cerebral artifices, but an essential sculpture, instinctively, almost an expressive necessity. In the complete sculptures (in general of the heads), one admires the virile grace of the modeling (which is not a contradiction) and especially the unusual patinas and loaded with a moderate but palpitating sensuality. In the truncated or torn sculptures, on the contrary, a dramatic and dynamic dimension prevails. These tears in the torsos and in the heads, are like large gaping wounds, which are there to testify all the fragility and all the precariousness of human existence ”.
