Lo Fehrling

Lo Fehrling (b. 1943, Gothenburg) is a Swedish painter working in oil, known for atmospheric, near-abstract landscapes in which sea, sky and light dissolve into one another. Born Kylberg, she is closely related to Carl Kylberg, one of the leading Gothenburg Colourists, represented at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and her layered, luminous palette carries that heritage forward.

She trained at Konstindustriskolan (HDK) in Gothenburg and built a long career in textile and fashion design, including work for IKEA, before devoting herself fully to painting. Throughout that career she painted continuously in oil, and her work has been commissioned for public and corporate collections including Kungsbacka City Hall, Volvo AB, Alfa Laval and Skandia.

Fehrling paints with brush, knife and fingers, drawing on a lifetime spent close to the sea and the lakes of western Sweden. Her subjects are moments of transition: dawn haze over the water, moonlight on a still bay, the last light of a summer evening. Horizons sit low, contours soften, and the landscape becomes a place of feeling rather than geography.

She has exhibited in Sweden, France and Italy, including Rossocinabro Gallery in Rome, the 1st International Biennale in Sanremo, the Swedish-French Art Society in Paris and Galleri Riddaren in Stockholm. She is represented by Galleri Scandinavia in Gothenburg, founded in 1972.
