Abraham Mintchine

Abraham Mintchine, born in Kiev (Ukraine) on April 4, 1898 and died on April 25, 1931 in La Garde (France), was a Ukrainian painter. At the age of thirteen, Abraham Mintchine was apprenticed to a goldsmith in Kiev. He began to paint at the age of sixteen. In 1923, he left Russia for Berlin where he worked as a stage designer and designed costumes for the Jewish theater. 

At his first Berlin exhibition in 1925, Mintchine presented works that critics defined as having a style close to Cubism. Only one painting from this period has survived (Museum of Tomsk, Russia). He arrived in Paris in 1926. First exhibitions in 1929 at the Galerie Manteau and at Leopold Zborowski's who welcomed him as a brother. Since then several exhibitions have been organized in Italy, France, Israel, England.
