Description
The Pensive Man is a black and white drawing realized in the 1970s by Michel Ciry. The artwork represents a portrait of a pensive man and a man from behind who seems to compare him. Includes a wooden frame: 43 x 1.5 x 35 cm Hand-signed by the artist on the lower right margin.
Michel Ciry (1919-2018) is a French painter, engraver, writer and composer. A student at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris from 1934 to 1937, Michel Ciry engraved his first copper in 1935 and started at the exhibition "Artistes de ce Temps" at the Petit Palais in 1938. In addition to his personal engraved work, he produced numerous illustrations for bibliophile editions. He created with his friends the international Michel-Ciry engraving prize, which rewards professional and amateur talented engravers.

Presentation
Michel Ciry was a French painter born in 1919 from La Baule, France. He was a student at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris from 1934 to 1937. He was appointed a member of the Society of French Painters-Engravers in 1941. He worked through painting and sculptures and he used many different mediums such as oil paint on canvas, prints, watercolor, and ink and was predominantly inspired by the 1930s. Since the year 2000, the record price for this artist at auction is $7,138 USD for “Arlequin à la canne", sold at Millon & Associes in 2017. The artist died in 2018.
