Charlotte Rampling is an English actress renowned for her compelling portrayals of complex, often enigmatic characters. Born on February 5, 1946, in Sturmer, Essex, she began her career as a model before transitioning to acting. Her early film appearances include Georgy Girl (1966) and The Long Duel (1967). In the 1970s, she gained international recognition with roles in The Damned (1969), Zardoz (1974), and the controversial The Night Porter (1974), where she portrayed a concentration camp survivor in a complex relationship with a former Nazi officer.

Throughout her career, Rampling has worked with esteemed directors such as Woody Allen (Stardust Memories, 1980), Luchino Visconti (The Damned), and François Ozon (Under the Sand, 2000). Her performances in 45 Years (2015) and Hannah (2017) earned her critical acclaim, including the Berlin Film Festival Best Actress Award and the European Film Award for Best Actress.

In addition to her acting career, Rampling has ventured into music, releasing a cabaret-style album titled Like a Woman in 2002. She has also authored an autobiography, Qui Je Suis, published in 2015

Rampling's distinctive style and presence have made her a muse for photographers like Helmut Newton and a fashion icon, celebrated for her elegance and timeless appeal. Her work continues to inspire audiences and filmmakers alike.
