Description
This artwork depicts a man in a dark suit, captivated by a bold and surreal piece of art. The canvas displays vibrant, sensual red lips, centered on the composition, from which a prominent cigarette emerges, accentuating an intriguing juxtaposition of sensuality and provocation. The pure white background highlights the striking contrast between the vibrant lips and the intrusive element of the cigarette butt. The man, seen from behind with his hands in his pockets, appears absorbed in deep contemplation, introducing a silent dialogue between the viewer and the art. The soft lighting suggests a gallery atmosphere, while the green frame softens the visual intensity. This work questions consumerism and superficiality, while also evoking themes of desire and addiction. Presentation
Artist Statement from Gerard Boersma: I create colorful and highly detailed works of art to express my love for the modern human as well as my concerns about contemporary city life. My hyperreal paintings are based on photographs I took during long walks through my hometown and major cities. They show people on the streets, in stores, public transport and museums or zoom in on popular products. To me these glimpses of everyday live are important as they say a whole lot about todays society. They show the way people see themselves, interact or are influenced by modern developments in various ways. I observe it, enlarge it and paint it. That way I freeze time and our fast and busy lives are forever captured in a moment. Finally ready to be observed quietly.
Biography I'm a professional and international recognized artist for over 20 years well known for my own style of realist painting. My art is in museums, galleries and private collections worldwide (North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa). Paintings were shown alongside the biggest names in art history at leading art fairs in Europe and United States. I've studied painting and fine art at the School of Arts Minerva in the Netherlands, specializing in meticulous form of realistic painting. I currently live and work in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.
