Description
Oil on canvas, hand signed lower right.
A vibrant and accomplished floral still life by the Dutch painter Theodorus van Oorschot, depicting a luxuriant bouquet of roses arranged in a blue-and-white ceramic vase. Executed with confident, expressive brushwork, the composition features blossoms in shades of white, pink, crimson, and yellow set against a cool blue-grey background. The artist masterfully balances rich colour contrasts and lively painterly textures, creating an image that is both decorative and atmospheric.
Van Oorschot was particularly admired for his flower pieces and landscapes, and this work exemplifies his ability to capture the fleeting freshness of cut flowers through a loose, impressionistic handling of paint. Broad strokes of colour define the blooms and foliage while preserving a sense of spontaneity and movement.
