Description

This composition plunges us into a nostalgic atmosphere. An arid landscape stretches under an orange sky. A solitary gas station marks the horizon. It embodies the aesthetic of old American roads. In the foreground, an old car with curved lines dominates the space. Its dark body captures the light of twilight. 
The artist uses exclusively spray paint. He masters the pressure to create subtle gradients. This technique, called pressure painting, allows for remarkable precision without any stencil. The rendering imitates the finesse of classical painting. 
The gaze travels from the steep rocks to an eagle in full flight. Every detail is treated with care. The texture of the dusty ground and the worn metal of the gas pumps are discernible. The warm light unifies the entire scene. A wind turbine is sketched in the distance, reinforcing the impression of solitude. The contrast between the shiny body and the aridity of the setting creates a precise visual balance. The work plays on depth and chromatic reflections.

Born in 1967 in the Paris region, Thomas de Belvata Balasy is a French painter internationally recognized for his unique approach to spray paint.

A pioneer of Pressureism – the art of painting exclusively with aerosol spray – he has refined and elevated this technique by mastering the interplay of pressure, distance, and angle to create works distinguished by exceptional textures, depth, and luminous effects.

During his teenage years, Thomas de Balasy became actively involved in the Hip-Hop graffiti movement in the late 1980s, working alongside many influential graffiti artists. His remarkable technical progression quickly earned him recognition within the scene under the name “BES."

Fascinated by mural painting, he chose spray paint as his sole artistic medium, deliberately rejecting traditional painting tools in favor of a single instrument capable of limitless expressive potential.

His work is based on complete mastery of freehand spray painting, executed without stencils, masking, or any auxiliary graphic tools. Through an extraordinary command of aerosol pressure, he creates subtle gradients, delicate drips, and intricate light effects with exceptional precision.
This approach allows for an extraordinary level of detail, even on small-scale formats, demonstrating that spray paint can achieve the same refinement traditionally associated with classical painting.
