Josep Teixido is a Catalan painter born Calella in 1956 who lives today in Barcelona. Passionate about art since childhood, Teixido has been showing his works for more than twenty years throughout the world with exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Switzerland ; he has been particularly successful in France.
Teixido's style can be placed between modernism and tradition. He is inspired by the greatest masters in art history: Velasquez, Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo and especially Paul Cezanne. Indeed, the work of Josep Teixido can be described as a new kind of impressionism.
The Spanish artist is inspired by his native Catalonia, by landscapes and people in his original and mysterious paintings. Teixido paints the coves of Cadaqués with their turquoise waters, fishing boats, the squares of Barcelona or the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees. What do these places have in common? The movement and the color that Teixido depicts.
Josep Teixido's success in France is mainly due to his original technique. He paints in oil and plays with a knife to create texture. His palette of bright colors catches the eye of the viewer and draws them into these poetic places. An optimist, forever in love with live, Teixido uses shades of blue, green, yellow, orange to give life to his panoramas. On the other hand, black is absolutely banned from the repertoire of the artist. Teixido searches for light, so he never uses black in his paintings.
Another important element in Josep's work is the feeling of movement. The painter creates a blur around his subjects all the while displaying an impressive degree of detail. The streets come alive under his brush and we feel all the beauty and melancholy of the place he reveals.
