Description
This acrylic composition unfolds like a complex network of trajectories. The space is saturated with fine white lines. They intersect relentlessly to form a dense grid. This graphic play evokes tense flows and physical theories.
The background is composed of a deep, earthy red. Yellow dots emerge in places. They bring a punctuated luminosity to the whole. The gaze circulates thus between the rigor of the line and the warmth of the colors.
The work relies on methodical repetition. Each fiber seems to vibrate under the tension of the gesture. The balance arises from this patient accumulation. The surface then becomes an abstract map where several layers of meaning are superimposed.
The plastic approach explores the notion of connection. The contrast between the brilliant white and the autumnal shades structures the plane. The canvas ends with a total saturation of the edges.
Presentation
Born in 1939 in Mortagne sur Gironde, in Charente-Maritime, he marries at the age of 20. Very young, he begins a long series of travels around the world that will last nearly 40 years. His professional life and the numerous affairs he manages oblige him to divide his time between Black Africa, mainly Abidjan, and Nouméa in New Caledonia. He becomes a confirmed expert in African Art and advises the best international collectors. Since his youngest age Christian Debenest has been fascinated by drawing, and more particularly by comics. His occupations will oblige him to limit himself to drawing that he frequently does in inseparable travel notebooks. At the end of the 80s he dedicates himself to painting, drawing inspiration since 1997 from the hypothetical "string theory". He creates this approach as being the tense flows.
