Artwork location: United Kingdom

The lion string art is one of the most distinctive designs I have made. The familiar shape of the lion emerges through layered thread, creating a bold and recognisable centrepiece. Built entirely from intersecting black lines, the work shifts depending on distance and perspective — appearing soft and atmospheric from afar, while revealing an intricate network of tension and precision up close.

There's a compelling contrast at the heart of the piece: strength rendered through fragility. The lion, often associated with power and dominance, is formed here through delicate strands suspended in space, giving the image an unexpected sense of vulnerability and movement. This interplay between structure and chaos gives the work its energy, allowing it to feel both highly controlled and emotionally raw.

Minimal in palette yet rich in texture, the piece has an unmistakable presence within an interior. It operates somewhere between portraiture, sculpture, and optical illusion — a contemporary statement work that invites curiosity and rewards repeated viewing. For collectors drawn to process-led art with depth and individuality, this is a piece that feels both immediate and enduring.

Presentation

Will Taylor is a member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA). The RBA only accepts artwork from those who employ a sound knowledge and application of draughtsmanship as the basis of their work.

Previous members of the RBA include Whistler, Lowry and Monet. The society was created on May 21st 1823, receiving royal recognition in 1887.

Will Taylor grew up in Liverpool, and after a science and engineering education followed a first career in business consultancy.

Choosing a dramatically different direction to develop an interest in arts and creativity, he is now an established artist and printmaker based in Rye East Sussex.

He attended short schools at the Slade School of Fine Art London and Kent Institute of Art and Design Maidstone, but is predominantly self-taught. He was elected a member of the RBA in 2018, and is also a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (Past President) and Rye Society of Artists. He has received both theme and print awards from the Society of Graphic Fine Art and print awards from the Pure Arts Group.
