Presentation
Hélène Donnadieu is a French artist born in 1959 in Tours.
She lives and works at heART Studio, in Guadeloupe in the French Antilles.
Painting with scissors, drawing or writing with paper, or more precisely cut out or torn pieces of paper from magazines and countless commercials have become a way of expression for her since about ten years.
In 1996, her taste for assembly with a creative eye led her to create her early works. Magazines as a palette, scissors and glue sticks are her tools. Mixtures of cut papers, twisted photographed objects, a patchwork of colors, this talented game of construction creates characters, atmospheres and animals.
Her world is highlighted through light. The cuttings are followed through amazing incursions, like sentimental tags, just like free allegorical compositions.
She calls her collages « khartégraphies », derived from ancient Greek «khârtés », meaning a sheet of paper and « graphein » which isn't translated anymore. She likes to draw, it's like an invitation to imaginary countries where images are recovered, cut and transformed into other figures, sometimes allegorical or just funny and unexpected.
Hélène Donadieu's collages strive to make people dream and share a reconstructed universe freely with colors, light and harmony.
