Javier Calleja

Spain Born in: 1971
Javier Calleja is a Spanish artist born in 1971 in Malaga. He studied fine arts at the University of Granada, and then moved to Malaga, city in which he currently lives and works.

Javier Calleja's drawings introduce us to a figurative universe impregnated by naivete. The artist gets inspired by childhood, breathing an impression of innocence in his compositions. But in the background, criticism is never far away. Without having a pessimistic look obout the modern world, Javier Calleja observes, reflects.

His work has been the object of fifteen solo exhibitions, as well as of numerous group exhibitions, in Spain as wel as in France, the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Lebanon. His drawings have been awarded three times, for example in 2014, when the artist received the first DKV award for best Spanish artist at the Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair.
