Born and educated in Austria, Marco Riha landed a job as an international tour guide - never to be seen again at his university, where he had studied law.
In 1995, fascinated by stunning Sri Lanka, Riha took a year off to paint, the beginning of a long creative journey.
As a self-taught artist, Riha only learned much later, that what he was doing, is Automatism:
'In art, automatism refers to creating art without conscious thought, accessing material from the unconscious mind as part of the creative process.' (Tate Art Term)
After travelling and painting for some years, the artist found in Mexico his creative home base.
Riha experimented with different mediums, including a long fascination with oils on canvas - his symbolic period is filled with therapeutic releases, inner and outer travel logs and first screams in color.
The colorDrops series from 2014 marked the beginning of his abstract works in mixed media. This current period includes socio-political pieces about liberty, multiculturalism, ecocide, division and unity, raising the age-old question about the artist's role as a moral compass."
