Katsuko Kuroya

Katsuko's first loves are very far from artistic expression. In her native Japan, she received a science education and specialized in mathematics. However, once she obtained her diploma, she left the University to go to Europe. The culture of the old continent, and more particularly the relationship between the arts and sciences, fascinates her. She therefore found herself in Rome to study plastic arts. Her artistic quest finally leads her to Paris, where she now lives part of the year.

If his first works were focused on abstraction, illustration of the relationship between numbers and creation, his painting changed radically in 2008. During an exhibition of young artists, sponsored by the famous artist MURAKAMI, Katsuko rediscovers Manga culture . She then tries her hand at a series of canvases where she stages a very graphic character, all in curves, evolving in an abstract universe made only of colored bands.

Today, Katsoko KUROYA settles down in a figuration that recalls the Japanese drawing. The landscape plays an important part, taking on a very minimalism and uncluttered aspect. In this setting, generally evolves a tiny train, almost lost in the middle of Nature. Katsuko evokes in this way his own journey through his culture of origin. She crosses it, moves away from it or approaches it, to compose a painting that carries within it the theme of cultural travel, of the quest for identity.
