Hélène Jacqz

France • 1964

My goal is to freely express the vital impulse, freedom, hope, which ultimately animates life and replenishes human activity.

Biography

Hélène Jacqz holds two degrees: one from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the other from Parsons School of Art and Design in New York, where she lived for five years thanks to three scholarships (Lavoisier, Fulbright, and Elena Rubinstein). She set up her first studio in Brooklyn, on the banks of the East River, with a breathtaking view of Manhattan. She worked there with great pleasure.
for 5 years.
Back in France, after collaborating with various galleries, she is currently represented by Galerie Mondapart. Her work is exhibited at art fairs, contemporary art shows, art centers, as well as internationally in Korea, Italy, Switzerland, China, and Japan. She also participates in artist residencies.
For Hélène Jacqz, three elements underpin the act of painting: Rhythm, Space, Light.
Rhythm is the source. It orchestrates the different elements that constitute a work. The artist uses suddenness and a lack of second thoughts as a means of opening up unknown fields, of which gesture is the primary expression.
Space is intuitive and spiritual. It must live within the work but also extend infinitely, that is to say, outside the frame and into the imagination.
Before being a color, light is a value (from white to black). The relationship between these values generates or does not generate depth, a depth that can also be expressed by a simple line/gesture, as in dance.
Vibrations, rhythm, resonance. The vivid colors act as an accelerator of emotion; the painting is taut, powerful, and expresses itself freely on small and large formats.
