Biography
He was born in 1943 and he was Richard Avedon?s assistant in the 1960s.
He made his debut in the magazine ?20 ans? and in the show ?Dim, Dam, Dom?.
He takes portraits of women who are, most of them, friends of his: they are natural-looking girls, often nude, with nonchalant attitudes.
Women fascinate Jonvelle; they are his favorite subjects.
He kept his freedom and his fresh look throughout his career. Influenced by his family, by the paintings of Bacon, by Fritz Lang and Lubitsch, his work is marked by a great sensuality, by the deep respect he has for his models and by the truth that comes from his nudes.
He uses an SLR camera and very bright lenses (50 mm f/1, 85 mm f/1,2). This aperture allows him to work with natural light, without a tripod, using exposure of up to 1/15.
The light: the photographer never uses flash. He only works in natural light.
The setting: usually, the elements that appear in the photograph are very discrete and ordinary. They play a role in the composition of the image, though.
He died of cancer at 58, 15 days after the discovery of a tumor.
