Wasiu Adelakun

Born in 1981 in Ayetoro, Wasiu Adelakun graduated with a B.A. in Islamic Education from Tai Solarin University of Education. An art enthusiast since childhood, Wasiu developed his passion for drawing and painting independently before formal education. Over a decade of collaboration with his brother, Saheed Adelakun, further honed his artistic skills.

Wasiu's artistic approach is distinguished by his innovative use of reusable waste, notably the jute sack, as a canvas. His works feature warm-toned backgrounds created from jute sacks, juxtaposed with cool and vibrant elements, evoking a sense of life and energy.

With a focus on human and animal portraiture, Wasiu aims to bridge the gap between art creation and Islamic principles, which dissociates with creating figurative objects for idolatry purposes. He is a dedicated member of The Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State Chapter, showcasing his art annually at the esteemed October Rain Exhibitions since 2022.
