The light and introspection of Scandinavia's coastal landscapes

Biography

Marie Sandell is a Swedish artist based in Lysekil, in the beautiful Bohuslän region. She has been painting since the 1970s and discovered acrylic paint by chance only a few years ago. Today, it is the medium she works with most to create her figurative, bordering on abstract, canvases inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of the Swedish west coast.

A stormy sea, steep cliffs, a sunset reflected in the water. The magic of nature when it resembles a painting itself. All this is captured in Marie Sandell's paintings. It's not uncommon for the finished painting to resemble a place she has been. Her subconscious has decided to bring the most memorable moments to life on canvas.

Using soft tones, her canvas transforms the room in which it is hung into a haven of peace and brings an atmosphere often found in Scandinavian interior design. Her refined style echoes the Nordic lifestyle, which advocates simplicity.
