In Katharina Husslein's latest collection, her fascination with the everyday takes center stage as she turns her expressive lens toward intimate dinner table still lifes. Moving beyond her floral-focused work, Husslein explores the textures, gestures, and quiet drama of shared meals and table settings through a rich impasto technique that brings each surface to life.
Through bold brushwork and thick, sculptural layers of oil paint, she captures the essence of fleeting moments — the gleam of cutlery, the spill of wine, the quiet aftermath of a gathering. This series diverges from her more polished, historically influenced floral still lifes, embracing a raw, tactile approach that elevates the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Katharina Husslein is a German painter born in 1989 in Wertheim, Germany. She is known for her hyperrealistic oil paintings depicting floral bouquets and lush landscapes. Her distinctive style combines meticulous attention to detail with a vibrant color palette, capturing the ephemeral essence of nature in full bloom.
Growing up in a picturesque village in southern Germany, surrounded by lush green hills and winding rivers, Husslein developed a deep connection with nature from an early age. This early immersion in a rich natural environment has profoundly influenced her artwork. To broaden her artistic horizons, she left Germany to study art in London, UK, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Buying Management from the University of Westminster in 2014. As part of her studies, she also lived in Los Angeles, New York, and Australia—experiences that have enriched her artistic perspective and refined her style.
Since 2019, Katharina Husslein has resided in Munich, Germany, where she continues to develop her work. Her work has been exhibited in numerous European cities, including London, Amsterdam, Basel, and Hamburg, as well as in Los Angeles, USA.
Husslein's works are held in private collections throughout Europe, the United States, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. Her artistic approach is deeply influenced by the Old Masters and contemporary floral photography. She also draws inspiration from nature, poetry, and history, integrating these elements to create compositions that evoke themes such as love, femininity, and the natural world.
In her floral still lifes, Husslein depicts flower arrangements with rich textures and saturated colors, capturing moments of fleeting beauty. Her impressionistic landscapes reflect experiences she had while living abroad, capturing the vitality and movement of coastal sunsets. Through her works, she invites the viewer to appreciate the present moment and the splendor of nature.
