Biography

Jeremy Geddes, born in 1974 in Wellington, New Zealand, is a contemporary artist renowned for his hyperrealistic paintings that blend post-apocalyptic surrealism with photographic realism. He studied painting at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, earning a B.F.A. in 1995 and an Honors degree in 1997. Since 2003, he has dedicated himself entirely to painting and resides in Melbourne with his wife and whippet.

Geddes is best known for his works depicting cosmonauts and figures floating, falling, or drifting in empty landscapes, exploring themes of alienation, collision, and distortion. His paintings are meticulously detailed, capturing subtle shifts in light and shadow, which lend a disquieting reality to otherwise surreal scenes.

In 2012, he held his solo exhibition "Exhale" at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. After over a decade, Geddes recently unveiled "Periphery" in January 2025 at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, an exhibition reflecting his interests and intuitions from the past five years.

Geddes' work continues to influence the contemporary art scene, offering thought-provoking pieces that challenge perceptions of reality.
