Biography

Far from traditional paths, Mauricette TOUSSAINT chose the unfamiliar path of self-taught. In 1977, she tried her hand at wood carving, but after five years of practice, she realized that this technique no longer met her expectations.

One thing became clear to her: it was the clay that spoke to her hands. The practice of modeling allowed her to discover a sensuality of gestures: passionate hands embracing living clay.

Since 1982, Mauricette Toussaint has never ceased to endlessly explore the richness of this material. She works without models. Her sculptures spring from an inner visualization. A search for life through all its expressions. Many women, with harmonious curves, but also a few men, happy to experience their paternity. A fertile, maternal work in which she instills a breath of tenderness, a touch of humor, mockery, and moments of gravity, a yearning for unity.

Present in numerous exhibitions, in France and abroad, Mauricette Toussaint continues her path. "I love life," she says with a smile. "And that's what emanates from each of her sculptures."
