Biography

Jean-Charles Taillandier was born in Longué-Jumelles in Maine-et-Loire in 1951.

He is a painter engraver xylographer.
He worked at the School of Graphic Arts in Venice and Luxembourg. He has participated in group exhibitions in France and abroad since 1982.

He has long explored the resources of intaglio print and woodcut. In the form, first of all, of engraved series, its graphic language has opened up to numerous artistic collaborations (photography, literature, poetry).

Since 2003, all his graphic works are unique, with emphasis on etching and monotype printed on sheets of Japanese paper laid down. What interests him above all is the variation of neighboring works from the same engraved plate. According to his desires, he makes him undergo different combinations: partial inking, reverse reading by playing on the transparency of the paper, juxtapositions of images by masking, etc ... His purpose never ceases to question this enigma: what the truth of a picture?
