Description
The origin of the “Self”

The navel is the least intimate part of the intimate body, the one that we show on the beaches, or even in the city, yet it is the one that goes back to the depths of our origins. Not “The origin of the world” but the origin of the self, of its identity as soon as it becomes independent of the cord which connects it to that which created being.
Reminiscence and omnipresence of the maternal bond, all these navels so different from each other, some aesthetic, others less decorated... Doesn't Buddha's navel show in its blossoming representations what is intimate and showable?
Stripped, by a tight and square framing, of any other shape, bodily index, of the owner of the navel, therefore reduced to its most essential expression, this navel does not allow the viewer to get a more precise idea of the individual to which it belongs. ... Just know if it's a man or a woman, maybe their approximate age, their skin color.
The collector's approach is not trivial. It requires a great deal of distancing, to be able to expose someone else's navel at home, to have to look at it daily, to show it to visitors. But it goes further, because in reality, here, it is the work that concerns the man.
This navel is an eye, Cyclops, attentive, which taunts us, seeming to smile at our vicissitudes and our ego.

Delivered rolled in a tube.
Possible finishes on request: dibond, American box, frame.
