Biography
Nete Yde Olsen is a Danish artist born in 1967.
The power and the fragility of the human nature emerge from Olsen’s painting through the landscape metaphor.
This series she has been working on for the last three years uses the theme of the unspoiled nature as a symbol of the interior landscape of the human soul. Through the earth, the dark, the night, the air, the sky, the ice and the water, she addresses the roots, the basis of existence. Water in all its forms is present in many of her paintings; it flows under the ice, between crystals and rocks. This movement, both serene and powerful, symbolizes the passion hiding under a calm appearance. After a time of violent blows, volcanic eruptions and lava flows, comes the need for purity, for calm and peace, expressed through colder chromatic variations – nuances of gray colored sometimes by a vivid touch or transparent glaze.
The brushstrokes are vigorous, expressive and rapid. The layers of paint comine into transparent or opaque surfaces. The accumulation of layers emphasizes Olsen’s search for texture. This tactile side in her paintings comes from her longtime practice of contemporary tapestry.
