Biography

Visual artist, born in Paris in 1980. Juliette Montier’s work is deeply abstract. Just as we search through the successive layers of our memory, Juliette Montier overlays coats of colour of varying thicknesses, subtly melding them with precise, rapid and repeated brushstrokes.

Instinctively coercing and constraining her material, she smoothes, scratches, and rubs until her tireless quest for absolute sincerity is revealed in a truly authentic piece of work. We get her painting because of its intimacy, its fluidity, its movement. Juliette Montier schematizes the impact of life experiences on our emotional memory and the delicate sensitivity of recollections; she reveals the ephemeral nature of the figurative, and the instability of things. In today’s information society, where images are omnipresent and idealized, Juliette Montier’s painting gives our eye and our emotions their freedom back, taking them through a door that leads to the present and to the unconscious.
