Gaspard Noël

Gaspard Noël made his first self-portrait when he was 12 and has never stopped since. “The world before us" is part of its 6th series of self-portraits: “Present", created in 2018 in the Canary Islands, around the subject of “Freedom". This series contains 116 other self-portraits. Often exhibited in France and in Paris, Gaspard is the only photographer ever to receive the Grand Prix Renée Béja of the Fondation Taylor. He recently joined the collection of the Reattu Museum in Arles with another monumental self-portrait of the series “Present".

"Formally speaking, my “Metaphysical self-portraits" are somewhat in between the photographic art of Arno Rafael Minkkinen and the drawn one of Mordillo whose absurd and humanist humor profoundly left a mark on my childhood. They also come within the scope of an almost mythological dimension of the image that reminds at the same time of the compositions of the neoclassical painting inspired by Antiquity and of the relationship between man and nature that nourished all the romantic painting..."
