Vladimir Logutov

Vladimir Logutov was born in 1980 in Samara, Russia and graduated from the Samara Art College. He started his carreer in Samara making an active contribution to the art life of his native city. Vladimir Logutov now lives and works in Moscow. In 2005 he completed his education with an independent artistic training in Stuttgart, Germany.

Over the past few years, he has played a vital role in the developmentof Russian contemporary art, and in the curatorship of exhibitions of young Russian artists in Moscow for the Smirnov and Sorokin
Foundation. He has participated in numerous shows in Russia and internationally.

In Novembre 2017, he has produced a major solo show at Winzavod Moscow for which he received the Innovation Award 2018 as “Artist of the year”. In 2016 took part in the group show “Towards the
source” in Garage Contemporary Museum in Moscow. He was nominated twice for the Kandinsky Award.

reality”, said Italian-born curator Antonio Gueusa.

With a background in drawing and painting, Vladimir Logutov has first emerged as one of Russia’s premier and evocative video artists. His videowork combines natural footage with computer montage, conveying a meditative feel to his narration. Through his painting and drawing experience, he molds and reworks his videos by superimposing his own digital reflections.

Often characterized as a follower of the Moscow conceptualist founder Erik Bulatov, Logutov does not show the glamorous side of his subject matter, but mostly scenes of a process – prone to mistakes, inaccuracies, and even failure. The main theme of his artistic research over the last five years is the act of perception of artwork. He works with the moment of meeting between the viewer and the artwork, the diversity of their relationship and the birth of meanings within this situation. His artwork shows the existence of different forms of art, and reveals to us its relationship with the exhibition space. However, the focus is always the
viewer.

All Vladimir Logutov’s works are experiments in which the artist rethinks the technics and technologies of every art form, discovering new potentials in video, sculpture and painting.
